THE BRIEF
To design and source for a kitchen / snug and sitting room to make them feel warm and welcoming and a little bit party! These were undertaken using my STUDIO SERVICE
The client was having a similar challenge with both spaces feeling functional but not inviting. They liked a clean look and had opted for wooden shutters and leather sofas. This lack of softness in the space whilst practical was an issue. The solution was to add more texture and colour to add warmth, helping them make the right choices.
Taking cues from the clients existing art and utilising existing key pieces of furniture where possible, I recommended that they paint the kitchen/snug walls a pale plaster colour to layer in warmth and swap out one of the leather sofas for a warm, luxurious terracotta velvet. These worked well with the clients art, ochre / silver rug and an olive green sofa.
To further enhance flow and add visual interest, I recommended replacing their angular side tables with tactile, curved alternatives—like the rattan side table and wooden oval coffee table shown above. These subtle shifts created a more welcoming space that still honoured their love of clean lines..
Moodboard
To bring a sense of cohesion and character, I recommended painting a cherished family loom chair in a bold accent colour drawn from their artwork—adding a subtle, personal touch.
As keen hosts of regular Friday night kitchen discos, the clients welcomed the addition of a bespoke cocktail nook. The cabinetry was designed with recessed lighting and antiqued mirror, introducing a touch of glamour and a social focal point within the kitchen.
To anchor both living spaces, I also proposed reinstating the fireplace surrounds with a clean, contemporary profile—restoring balance and understated elegance to each room.
In the sitting room, similar challenges persisted, with added needs for improved lighting and visual interest at height. Working with the clients’ existing art and sofas, I introduced a rich, textural rug to anchor the space and add warmth, alongside a curved velvet swivel chair in a moody, evening-toned fabric for both comfort and style.
A sculptural floor lamp in warm, tactile materials—such as wood—added layered lighting and visual intrigue. To maintain flow with the adjoining snug, I recommended a wall colour just a shade lighter, within the same palette, to create continuity while subtly defining the space.
To complete the space, I designed bespoke cabinetry for either side of the fireplace—offering both functional storage and an opportunity for curated vertical styling. Discreet recessed spotlights within the shelving resolved the lighting challenge while adding subtle drama and warmth.
