THE BRIEF
To convert a playful children’s family bathroom into an inviting, warm and comfortable guest shower room.
The children had grown and flown the nest so it was time to evolve this space in a 400 year old Cotswold farmhouse. Central to the brief was to reconfigure the space and to ensure that what ever was designed was not cold and clinical and felt in keeping with the rest of the house. It should feel like a welcoming living space.
The key design challenges were to make a relatively small space feel as spacious as possible and the steep drop on the floor.
THE DESIGN
The colour palette was inspired by a beautiful, delicate piece of art, in soft skin tones and pale aquas.
Moodboard
The room was reconfigured to be as spacious as possible. A new walk-in shower replaced the bath, keeping the shower screen clear enabled a clear sight line form the door. The eye is then drawn through the screen to the interesting tile pattern on the rear wall. The WC was moved along the exterior wall and the vanity unit was relocated to the other side of the room. This created a good circulation space and created the opportunity for a new, handy heated towel rail by the exit of the shower
The shower tiles are in a textural zellige style in a soft peach/pink, which feels cosy and cocooning. A practical niche was built into the new stud-work for shampoo bottles.
The vanity unit was chosen for its excellent storage and the gentle curves facilitates the flow in the space. A circular vintage mirror and soft textural linen wall lights all create a gentle, characterful space that fits perfectly in the home .
There is good ventilation in the space so I layered in an elegant wallpaper in a gentle nature-inspired seedpod pattern. The aqua blue is calming and pairs beautifully with the soft pink tiles.
A new roman blind in a soft lemon and blue creates cosiness and warmth
